About “Dead Famous”

Dead Famous, a Celebrity Group service, was established in Hollywood in 1970. It was formed by a small group of British TV producers, journalists, photographers and presenters. The group became famous for producing and selling editorial celebrity profiles to newspapers and magazines such as Harpers, Vanity Fair, Vogue and GQ as well as being syndicated in magazines and colour supplements throughout the world, including the UK.

The series, entitled “Stars in Their Homes” and “Who’s Who in Showbusiness”, featured such stars as Zsa Zsa Gabor, Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Sophia Loren, Sammy Davis Jr., Audrey Hepburn, Barbara Streisand, Burt Reynolds, Jack Nicholson, Roy Scheider, Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, Faye Dunnaway, Cybill Shepherd, Jacqueline Bissett, Racquel Welch, Farrah Fawsett  and many other Hollywood stars. This format was so successful it became the forerunner for magazines which adopted a similar format such as “Hello” and “OK”.

This was the origin of the relationship between Celebrity Group and many Hollywood stars, their influential Hollywood agents, managers, publicists and PA’s, which remains to this day and provides the company with direct access to key Talent and managements. Over the years, as many of the icons of the silver screen passed away, Celebrity Group maintained contact with their agents, managers and Estates, mainly for the commercial use of our own material. However, this unintentionally resulted in many enquiries from advertisers  and picture libraries seeking permission to use, not just our images, but those of other deceased Hollywood icons.

Hence “Dead Famous” was created to facilitate the growing demand for licenses for the commercial exploitation of images of former icons of the silver screen, the sporting arena and the wider world.
